Homestead Heritage

Homestead Heritage just a few miles north of Waco, TX is a great place to walk around and see how a group of 800 people live off the land. I was told that only about 200 people actually live on the property (510-acre homesteading community) and everyone else comes into help. They say that they are a non demoninational group of Christians. If you get the chance go, go to the deli at the information center. All of the food is natural and made from scratch on the property, not just organic. Vanilla ice cream on the side of a slice of blackberry/rasberry pie is fantastic!

Visitors are invited inside the 200-year old restored barn, which showcases the work of the village’s craftspeople. Inside the barn are handcrafted furniture and accessories plus hundreds of one-of-a-kind heirloom gift items—pottery, wrought iron, quilts, handmade brooms and baskets, mesquite shepherd’s lamps, wooden cutting boards and spoons, oil lamps, beeswax candles, natural soaps, needlework, original watercolors, cards, children’s storybooks and homesteading how-to’s as well as Homestead Farms specialty foods and Homestead Gristmill Baking Mixes.
